Rating: PG-13
Summary: Casey wakes up and thinks about Zeke. Sequel to Sunday Morning Reflections because
holycitygirl requested it.
Author's note: I'm accepting Casey/Zeke challenges, so hit me with 'em. :-D
Casey comes awake slowly and smiles slightly, feeling the comforting presence of Zeke’s chest against his back, his arm around his waist. He can hear Zeke breathing and, even though he can’t see his face, he knows Zeke is awake. The subtle way his thumb strokes Casey’s stomach might be the clue that gives it away.
Casey imagines he can hear the wheels turning in Zeke’s head. He knows the older boy is thinking deeply about something, can tell it in the way he holds himself completely still save for his absentminded thumb stroking. Casey’s pretty sure he knows what Zeke is thinking about. He knows that no matter how much Zeke protests otherwise, he has abandonment issues with his parents. Case and Stokely had a long discussion about it one night, not long after Casey and Zeke had gotten together.
Stokely’s advice had been simply to love Zeke, to show him that he loved him with little gestures. So Casey had taken to brushing his hand against Zeke’s as they walked down the hall at school and leaving little notes in Zeke’s lockers. Most of the notes were simply a sheet of paper filled with their names written inside hearts, while some were poems. It was somewhat sappy, but thus far, Zeke hasn’t complained. Casey knows that beneath Zeke’s bed is a shoebox filled with every single love note Casey has written.
Casey is a little surprised by how remarkably easy it is to love Zeke. Part of him recognizes that both of them crave attention and affection, and he is only too happy to give it to Zeke, because he knows Zeke returns his love in his own special way. Just by showing an active interest in Casey’s everyday life, Zeke makes Casey feel loved and wanted. Zeke shows genuine enthusiasm when Casey shows him his photographs. They’ve talked about their plans after school and Zeke fully supports Casey’s idea of opening a photography studio in Orlando, Florida.
But sometimes Casey feels like Zeke is holding back, and it makes him sad. He knows that Zeke is trying not to get too attached, in case Casey leaves him. Casey tries to communicate through his gestures and caresses that he’ll never willingly leave. He can’t promise that he won’t die in a horrible car wreck or another alien invasion, but he won’t just walk away.
Sometimes he thinks that Zeke knows this, especially when they’re making love. Because that’s what Casey firmly believes they’re doing. He knows what fucking is: Delilah was fucking. With Zeke, it’s much more intimate, more real and tangible and certainly not throwaway. Casey knows that he loves Zeke, knows that he wants to be with Zeke.
He loves the way Zeke stands in front of the mirror in the bathroom, wearing only jeans, frowning in concentration as he cuts his own hair. Casey loves to curl up on the couch with Zeke and watch TV, snuggled up to Zeke’s side, Zeke’s arm draped loosely around his shoulders. He loves waking up in Zeke’s bed, in his arms. He feels safe and warm and protected.
He just loves Zeke, period.
He finally decides he needs to break Zeke out of his thoughts. He’s been silent for too long and even the movement of his thumb on Casey’s stomach has stopped. Casey wiggles, then turns over and nuzzles his cheek against Zeke’s chest. He drapes his arm over Zeke’s waist and his leg over Zeke’s, then rests his hand on the base of Zeke’s spine. He breathes deeply of Zeke’s scent -- natural maleness mingled with Ivory soap -- and then feel Zeke’s lips touch his hair. Zeke whispers “I love you” and Casey feels a warm tingle spread through his body.
He turns his head, kissing Zeke’s chest as he whispers, “I love you too.” He smiles as he feels Zeke’s arm go around his shoulders and he snuggles closer, feeling more content than even as he falls back asleep.
