In the middle of the sweltering summer heat, Desmond Andrew Molloy was born on August 15, 2010 to Jude Molloy and Miranda Livingston. He'd been completely unplanned and unexpected; Miranda had never given much thought to having children and Jude had all but forgotten how much he'd actually liked taking care of his brother during that week three years before when the youngest Molloy twin was turned into a toddler. Still, by the time that the little baby was born, both parents were somewhat excited about raising a child together. Miranda went into labor on Saturday afternoon and the baby was born nearly 12 hours later at one in the morning on Sunday. He was named after Jude's twin, Desmond, who had been killed in August of 2008.
The first two years of little Desmond's life went pretty well. He was spoiled by both of his parents, moreso by his father. His mother reconciled with her parents, who doted on him as well. He was a happy, bubbly baby, never shy and always smiling. He was also very curious and, as he grew older, he became very daring as well. On more than one occasion, Jude would comment to Miranda that the little boy was a lot like Desmond had been at that age.
Miranda referred to the little boy by his middle name, shortening it to Andy, but Jude insisted on calling the boy Desmond and refused to call him anything except that. Things seemed to be going well for the family, and then Jude was nearly arrested for nefarious crimes he'd performed and had to go on the run. He couldn't risk taking his family with him, so he left them behind, promising to call them often.
For the first few months that he was gone, Jude called regularly, at least once a week, sometimes more if he could swing it, and Andy eagerly awaited the phone calls from his daddy. He missed him terribly and couldn't understand why his daddy couldn't come home. He also couldn't understand why his mommy cried so much at night when she thought that no one could hear.
By the time that Jude had been gone six months, his phone calls had dwindled to once every two weeks, and Miranda was seven months pregnant, having found out shortly after he left that she was a month along. Miranda had intended to keep her pregnancy a secret from Jude because she didn't want to risk him coming home and getting caught. Andy unwittingly foiled this plan though, because he grabbed up the phone to talk to his daddy and said that Mommy's tummy was getting soooo big.
Christopher Jude Molloy joined the family on March 8, 2013 and Andy took to his little brother right away. As the boys grew older, Andy became more and more protective of his brother and mother, especially his mother. He hated that she was so lonely and upset all of the time but putting on a brave front when his father called. Andy started trying to set his mother up on dates with his friends' single dads and even his seventh grade math teacher, but Miranda just wasn't interested.
Miranda finally told Andy about his namesake, Desmond, when he was 11, also telling him about Jude's power, as well as hers When Andy turned 14, he discovered his power, which was innate capability, the same as Jude. Andy started playing poker in high school and he learned card counting early on, perfecting his technique. As soon as he was old enough to gamble, some friends and he took a road trip to Vegas, where he tried out his technique. He won a nice sum of money, not too big to be suspicious, but enough to be a passable beginner's luck.
Andy is a very angry young man because he sees how much his mother hurts and he has a tendency to take his anger out on others in the form of his fists. He's been in more fights than Miranda can count and nearly got expelled from his high school. After he saw how much the incident upset his mother, he straightened up and knuckled down in school just enough to graduate. He has no aspiration to go to college and is currently dating his high school girlfriend, Natalie.
