Casey loves to watch Zeke sleep. Many nights, he pretends to be asleep until he feels Zeke relax and hears his lover’s breathing fall into a steady rhythm. Then he very gently turns over and props himself up on an elbow and watches Zeke.
He thinks his lover looks most peaceful when he’s sleeping. In sleep, Zeke doesn’t have to prove that he’s not just a drug dealer or a rebel or any other label society wants to place on him. In sleep, Zeke can be himself.
The lines on his face smooth out and sometimes the corners of his mouth curl up in a small smile. Casey wonders if Zeke is dreaming about him. The egotistical side of him is certain that his lover is dreaming of him, but the little insecure voice that remains inside him isn’t sure.
Sometimes Casey spends hours staring at Zeke as he sleeps, which causes his lover to spend the next day wondering why he’s sleeping in class. He’s never told his lover that he watches him sleep.
Sometimes Casey is so overcome with his lover’s breathtaking beauty that he traces the contours of his lover’s face with feather-light brushes of his fingertips. However, his lover is a light sleeper and no matter how light Casey thinks his touches are, Zeke can somehow feel them and will inevitably wake up.
Casey thinks his lover is even more breathtaking when he first wakes up and his hair is tousled just so and his eyes are still cloudy with sleep. His lover questionably mumbles his name in an incredibly sexy “I’m-still-asleep” voice and Casey melts. He ends up kissing Zeke passionately. That usually wakes Zeke up in a snap.
Casey doesn’t realize that his lover has caught onto his game. Casey doesn’t know that Zeke is faking sleep. Casey isn’t aware that his lover is secretly thrilled that watching him sleep can get Casey so excited.
Casey finds himself sleeping a lot in class. Little does he know that Zeke does the same.
